| Well-designed, expensive wireless presenter for your PC |
|
Cons:
1) Trackball on device mouses really slow. Not sure if there's a way to increase the speed.
2) You must follow the directions in the online manual *PRECISELY* or THE DEVICE WILL NOT WORK. I'm 23 years old and I've been on a computer since the age of 4, so I'm not some n00b talking out his behind. Take note that the light on the USB dongle must be off AND THEN you press connect on the Targus presenting controller. If you don't do this, it wont work.
The drivers were found and installed by XP.
3) Volume Down button is on RIGHT side. I don't know how this got past user interface, but volume up is usually on the RIGHT side (since the right side usually indicates increase)
Overall, it's a pretty nice device. I read a lot of bad reviews about the lower model of this line, but thankfully everything has gone smoothly. I couldn't find a single prof. or user review on this device, so I hope this helps!
It comes with 2 AAA batteries, a nice black carrying pouch, a holding string on the presenter (which I took off) and a USB dongle.
It has 3 modes- music, presentation & mouse mod. There is a button on the backside of the presenter (which you can't see in the pictures here) which controls the laser pointer. Nice touch on that, btw. The back button is exactly like the Nintendo 64's "Z" button in the back.
Hope this review helps.
| | This presenter is a good value for the money. It has three modes: 1) mouse, 2) presenter and 3) multimedia. In all modes the laser pointer operates at the pull of a trigger underneath the presenter (transmitter) unit. In the mouse mode it operates as a trackball mouse, in the presenter mode it has a page up a page down and an ESC key function and finally in multimedia mode it has a vlume up, a volume down and a play pause function. It also has three hot buttons -- one for internet access, one for E-Mail access and one that duplicates your Alt-Tab key.
The trackball must be kept clean to function properly. Oil from your fingers will prevent it from functioning. Clean up was easy -- I immersed the ball in dishwater, rinsed and dried with a papaer towel. Before an important presentation you would want to clean it. You might want to have a container of soapy water, clean water and a paper towel handy just in case a presenter is nervous and sweaty. Use NO ALCOHOL to clean it according to the manufacturer. The trackball will flat out quit working when it is dirty.
For the money I would buy this item again. I am spoiled by optical mice which perform well dirty or otherwise. For this reason I gave it a **** rating instead of *****.
To set up the unit you simply plug in the receiver, plug in the transmitter and then do something weird. You punch the off button on the receiver (USB part) and then turn it back on by pressing a button underneath the presenter (transmitter). After that you are on your way. This procedure is required for the transmitter and receiver to start functioning. Nothing happens until you perform those steps. Happy presenting!
| | This works great for powerpoints and website exploration in the classroom. I work in a 2nd grade class so having the freedom to walk around the room is wonderful. I don't think I could ever be without one again!
| | This is very well designed device. I bought it when I integrated our computer to our home theater center and needed a replacement for the mouse. This was perfect for this use.
I'd suggest that anyone who buys this change their computer's mouse settings. This can be done on Windows PCs (don't know about vista) by going to control panel and selecting either "Mouse" or "Printers and Other Hardware" then Mouse (depending on your version and setup). From there you have many options depending on your particular needs.
I chose to slow down the pointer speed for smoother movement. Another useful change I made was Enabling "ClickLock"; this allows you to drag without having to use both hands by holding the mouse button down for a length of time you can choose and clicking again to release.
Pros:
Does everything it says. Fully functional mouse; PowerPoint Presenter; Basic Multimedia Buttons.
The roller-ball gets smoother with use.
It has very good reception; worked through walls all around the house.
The laser drives my wife's cats crazy.
Cons:
Like others have mentioned, the volume up and down buttons seem backwards but it doesn't take long to get used to.
The only real issue I have is that the buttons don't seem to be programmable. I considered returning it for this reason alone, but none of the other presenters I looked at were as functional as this one so it stays.
I hope this helped.
| | Excellent all-round presentation gear |
| I have extensively used other presenters from other reputed brands, but many of them lacked the complete functionality. This piece comes with a mouse built-in which really helps in controlling the presentation. Would highly recommend this to anyone who lives his work life doing presentations.
