| Would be a good keyboard if it worked properly |
| This keyboard has a lot of potential, but it has a fatal flaw. It would work just fine for a while, then it would go into a mode somewhere between caps-lock and normal, where the wrong keystroke is sent to the computer. Toggling back and forth between caps-lock and the regular setting would not get the keyboard out of this state and the only solution I found was to reboot the computer. My guess is this has to do with a bad software driver, but I was using the most up-to-date driver downloaded from Adesso's website. After trying to use the keyboard for about a week, I finally unplugged it and went back to my old keyboard.
The keystokes feel pretty good. I was disappointed with the buttons below the touchpad that act as left or right mouse buttons because they make a very loud click and require too much pressure.
If the flaw the prevents the keyboard from functioning correctly were corrected, then I could increase my rating from 1 star to 4 stars, but in its current state, the keyboard is unusable.
| | I have mixed feelings about the Adesso AKB-420UB keyboard, with glidepoint touchpad. I bought it to try to get some relief from the pain and weakness that's developed in my right hand, from years of using a mouse for 10 hours each day. Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to be as effective at that as I had hoped.
The problems with this keyboard,as I see them:
1) The backspace key is not on the edge of the keyboard. It's sandwiched between the PLUS/EQUAL key and the HOME key. That makes it harder to hit. If I miss it, and hit the home key, the cursor is suddenly far away from where I was typing.
2) Placement of the DELETE key is next to the LEFT ARROW key, instead of near the backspace key. The DELETE key ought to be where the HOME key is.
3) Disabling the TAP TO CLICK function of the glidepoint pad also disables the TAP AND DRAG function. Tap-to-click always causes me trouble, especially on super sensitive touchpads like this one, so I have to disable it. I could live with the loss of tap-and-drag except for the next point.
4) There is no option to map the LEFT and RIGHT touchpad button funtions to the special keys on the left hand side of the keyboard. This is the biggest problem for me. Holding down the RIGHT touchpad button with my thumb, while moving my fingers across the touchpad, requires the manual dexterity of a stage magician. Even if I could do it, the required contortion of my hand is almost as bad as continuing to use a mouse.
It seems ridiculous, to me, that Adesso didn't provide the option of moving the touchpad button functions to the user's choice of the special keys on the left side of the keyboard.
5) The key feeling is not great, but I can live with it.
