| Quality Microsoft Keyboard |
| I picked up this keyboard as a replacement for my wireless desktop set. Most gamers know that using wireless peripherals can interfere with gaming to a large extent. My old set ended up causing me some issues with lag in my games, so I ditched it. I did not want to spend a million dollars on an advanced set...I just wanted something that would work and work well. To that extent, this is a great keyboard for a very good price.
I originally was going for the comfort curve model because of the low profile, and quietness of the keys. Although I wanted that keyboard, the ergonomic style keys have always thrown me off a little when I type because of the learning curve needed to be able to use them. Also, most ergonomic keyboards distort the outside keys in order to provide the typing comfort. This ends up making reaching the outer control, shift, return, and backspace keys tricky. Another desire of mine was the Microsoft Laser Destop 6000v2, but not only was that one wireless, but it also had the comfort curve design. I liked the fact that it had a lot of hot keys that the user could program.
I saw this one at a brick and mortar store, and I tested it there. I was impressed. I liked that it has the traditional layout of the keys along with the low profile keys that make it feel more like a laptop keyboard. Also, the keys are super-quiet. You don't hear anything when you are typing with this keyboard. The hot keys all work fine, and the included Intellitype software was easy and quick to install. The software allows you to configure the hot keys any way you wish.
This keyboard works fine with my games, and I am happy with it. I would say that if you want an inexpensive corded keyboard for your computer, this is an excellent choice.

| I bought this keyboard to replace my Logitech Elite Keyboard, which I spilled my drink all over. So far, I'm really growing to love it. I've always been a fan of the louder, more tactile keyboards (such as my old Elite board), so I was slightly hesitant to buy this keyboard since it types a bit more like a notebook keyboard than a typical desktop keyboard (it's actually kind of in-between the two). But, it's surprisingly comfortable to type on. It looks great, it's inexpensive, and there are plenty of configurable hotkeys, which is a plus. It also has a "Flip 3D" button, which, on Windows XP, will pan all your open windows out on your desktop, just like Exposé on Mac OS X. here's my Pro/Con list:
Pros:
+Keys are super quiet and comfortable, with just the right amount of tactile feedback.
+21 different hotkeys, all of which are configurable. All 21 hotkeys work perfectly in Linux as well.
+The Intellitype software that comes with this keyboard works on both Windows and OS X
+Looks great
+If you have the F-Lock toggled, it actually *remembers* that you have it toggled, even after rebooting. Finally!
+Relatively small footprint. Good for compact desks.
Cons:
-The escape and F keys (F1-F12) are tiny and too stiff, which makes it hard to perform shortcuts like Alt-F4 without looking at the board. They should have made them closer in size and tactility to the regular keys.
-The F keys have their numbers (F1-F12) printed in tiny text underneath them instead of on the key itself, and in pale blue, which makes them very hard to read, especially in low light. The face of the keys have an image of their alternate function printed on them. It really ought to be flipped around, with F1-F12 on the face in white, and the images below.
-The bottom-left control key is too small. For the first few days, expect to be missing this key or to be having your pinkie slip off this key quite often. It's something you'll get used to accommodating for, however.
-The props on the bottom of the board will lift the keyboard up a little bit too much for some people's tastes. It would have been nice if they had a way to prop it up only half as high as well.
Overall, for less than 30 bucks, you won't find a much better keyboard than this one. I'm definitely satisfied with the purchase.
| | I bought this keyboard Christmas eve, and use it on a Dell Dimension 4300
w/XP SP3. Best Internet keyboard I might ever own, with all its function,
special and 'hot' keys, you are 100% ready to surf, navigate and perform
any task on the web with your Microsoft and other software applications,
programs and hardware. Print out the Intellitype Hot Keys list from the
Help Menu, then you will really learn how to use and set it up.
Installation was disk first as usual. The only problem encountered like
with many keyboards is not recognized on start-up as logical device load.
Get a USB-PS2 adapter and you will have no problems, boots every time.
Someone with large fingers might find the low relief of keys hard to use,
pressing more than one at a time. Gone are the days of 101/102 AT style
high-relief keys, unless you get a Cherry, BTC, maybe Keytronic. Use the
adapter and you get the benefit of a freed up USB port, when you weren't
using the PS2 port before, which is made for your keyboard and software.
I'm buying more for every new computer I make for myself.
If all you need is a basic 101 keyboard, get the Microsoft Wired Keyboard
500 PS2. Both of these keyboards are quality at a reasonable price, give
you real value for your money (don't we all want that! LOL). With one or
two keys, you can access almost anything you want or need to do on or off
line with the MS Digital Media Keyboard 3000.
| | This is a sleek, nice-looking, compact keyboard. If you like low-profile keyboards, this is a solid choice. It has good key cushion and smooth tactile feel. Although key travel is slightly shallower than a regular desktop keyboard, it is still deeper than a laptop keyboard. This keyboard is quiet but you still get some soft aural feedback. Media control keys and zoom keys are nice extras.
At the end of the day, I still think deep key travel is better for extensive typing, but, again, this is a fine keyboard. One-star deduction is my subjective bias.
| | The keyboard is awesome. The keys feel soft and comfortable, the shape is great. The keyboard has tons of options as far as programming and media buttons. The only thing the board is missing is a wrist rest. That is the only cause for the 4-star instead of the 5-star. Other than that no problems, great keyboard.
