| Iogear Wireless Mouse and Keyboard |
| I have the last year's version of this keyboard/mouse set.
<<< Update: The reason I wrote this was to put a warning on this product -- this year's model appears almost indistinguishable from last years. Although I hope Iogear improved their quality control (a lot of bad reviews for last year's model), I'm skeptical and think everyone should be forewarned about possible problems with a product before purchase. On the version I have... >>>
SOME|TIMES WHEN I |TYPE IN C|APS NO|W (using the shift keys), I get the vertical-bar character inserted in my text. It just started up out of the blue after the warranty ran out. |This is obviously extremely annoying. Further, the mouse "sleeps" if you haven't moved it for about 5-10 seconds, meaning when you click on something, the mouse doesn't necessarily register it, and therefore neither does your computer, which causes a significant amount of annoyance; it also makes it absolutely horrible for any delicate work -- it essentially will only register 2+ pixel movements, which probably isn't an issue for most people but I have found it very annoying for some of my work. Lastly, the backspace key is tiny, which Iogear appears to have changed in this year's model. Although mine is last year's model, I would suggest going with a different brand. M|y experience with Iogear is certainly not a good one... I'm in the market for another set and I'm obviously not buying this one.
Updated: Another problem -- my mouse now isn't always charging when put in the base. The connections are failing. (I've already replaced the rechargeable batteries -- the ones that came with this set only had about half the mA, ie power, and were a cheap pair.) I am so disappointed with this keyboard set.
Another update: for a few weeks in February my 'g' button was having problems -- it wouldn't work.
| | easy to set up and start working.
Mine has a little problem that one key stays down, I dont know if its just mine, but i dont have more complains.
The range is not that long, but not short enough to complain either.
I love this keyboard, especially cause it was so easy to set up.
The mouse charger is beautiful too, cause it also works as the receiver for both mouse and keyboard.
I recommend this very much.
I am on a low budget and I think I got a good deal.
But I gotta say, if u can spend some more money, get bluetooth; cause bluetooth rocks!
| | Have had this combo about 2 months, and already the keys are sticking down. Have to pry them up. At other times, key strikes don't register at all. The touch is good for most of the keys, and then others have to be hit quite hard. Save your money, and get a different product. Giving this a very poor rating.
| | Well, it LOOKS pretty, but... |
| While the mouse works well at a distance (I tested it at about 20 feet), the keyboard is useful only as a doorstop. It won't connect to the receiver, even at 2 feet. It just acts as if there were no power at all to it. Very disappointing, since there is no competition at this price.
| | Impressed by Range, Average Mouse, Really Awful Keyboard |
| I bought this because I needed a long-range wireless keyboard/mouse to use with my media PC (where I sit on the couch, about 10ft from the TV).
It worked with Windows XP without requiring any drivers (although I did install the ones that came on the CD later). The keyboard is somewhat thin and feels nice. However the keyboard has 2 flaws. First, sometimes it does not connect to the receiver, so you need to manually connect it (happens rarely). The MAJOR FLAW is that sometimes when I press a key on the keyboard, the receiver thinks I'm HOLDING that key. So, if I'm writing text, and press "t", the receiver interprets it as "ttttttttttttttttt" and will keep on typing "t" unless I press "t" again. Since I mainly watch videos on my Media PC, when I press the button to skip 20 seconds, the keyboard makes the video keep on skipping forever unless I press that same key again! It's pretty much like an old keyboard with glue-like sticky keys.
The mouse is average, since it's not very sensitive (low dpi sensor) which isn't important unless you're into gaming or plan to use this keyboard/mouse combo on a PC requiring precision movement. One problem I had was after installing the drivers, you can customize the mouse to use 5 buttons (which it has). But if you select 5-button setup, the scroll button doesn't work when you browse your files on Windows Explorer/My Computer. But if you set it to 3-button setup, it works. So I guess there are some issues there as well! Only advantage I'd say is ergonomics.
My advice is stay clear of this keyboard, unless you seriously need the range on the mouse (not the keyboard, since it has too many flaws).
