| I normally don't write reviews. But for this product one I am so angry that I want write this. I have been into computer hardware before and have seen a lot of products that are used to cover keyboards, but none like this. This product is not at all worth the money. The picture shown does not match the product so don't be fooled. I bought two of these from the same vendor and both of them are already torn. Please don't waste your money on this product, like I did.
| | Not appropriate for all laptops |
| My first mistake was to lease HP laptops for use in an environments that are not dust and dirt free. Even very short hairs can lock up the keys, which are not removable according to HP. The entire keyboard is supposed to be replaced every time this happens according to HP service techs.
The second mistake was to buy one of these covers.
The cover is flimsy, a bit wider than the laptop and is not held on with elastic straps. This means that it can block the ventillation port on the HP laptop, does not make a very good seal and can wear out and tear rapdily. It also causes the keyboard and laptop to heat up since it reduces convective cooling.
Current workaround: I've made my own cover with a see-through fabric and velcro and have purchased a separate USB keyboard.
| | A must-have when the dog is shedding |
| I don't know what the previous reviewers thought or got, but what I received is exactly like the photo. As described, these are "semi-disposable", meaning quite thin and not intended to be truly long term. With a little cellophane tape patching (on both sides) when needed, my first one lasted at a few months of near constant use with my long nails. They are held on with wrap-around loops of the same, but thicker, material, which is some kind of very flexible, almost matte plastic. These loops, well under 1/2" wide, do block my laptop lock and side USB ports if I'm not careful, but it's easy enough to push then aside when necessary.
It fits it quite well on my dell laptop once I roll down the top edge to keep the touch pad uncovered, and I can type normally, up to 100+ wpm. It's unnoticeable to my hands after a very short while. It seems to help prevent the letters from being scratched off the keyboard as quickly. And of course, it keeps out those short beagilish dog hairs. I just wish they lasted longer.
