| The touchpad was my primary reason for getting a keyboard. I am switching to a tethered computer, from laptops, for the first time in 8-9 years, and have long ago come to prefer touchpads to mice.
This touchpad, unfortunately, comes with no drivers. Upon emailing Adesso tech support, I found out that this model is strictly "plug and play" - in other words, whatever mouse controls exist in Windows are all you get. They "may put out a driver next year" (quoting Adesso).
Being used to much more extensive touchpad control, mostly through Synaptics, this was too much of a backward step for me. This keyboard has to go back. Adesso has pretty much the most extensive keyboard/touchpad lineup, most of which come with Glidepoint drivers, so Adesso it will be - but not this one. Not with nothing more than Windows mouse support.
| | Corruptive touch-tapping cannot be disabled. |
| The potentially corruptive touch-tapping feature/bug cannot be disabled. This causes unintentional button clicks and possible data loss.
I have contacted Adesso, and they replied that there is no way to disable this behaivior.
Touch-tapping is especially harmful when in a browser or word processing program, where a unintentional click can mean accidental deletes or purchases.
I recommend against purchase of this device, and recommend to Adesso, that this behaiviour be disabled by default, and only enabled via software/driver.
| | This is my first review on Amazon, mostly because the negative reviews here need some balance. I feel really strongly that this keyboard is worth every penny. It worked for me right out of the box. Easy install, easy to use. Period. I have had no problems on Windows XP SP2. I've been recommending this thing to all my friends building an HTPC and the ones who heed my advice have agreed (so far). It would be nice to have more customization features, but that's the only reason this keyboard doesn't warrant a 5.
Everyone has different experiences with stuff like this. But if you have Win XP SP2 you're good to go.
| | Great idea in theory, but the performance is unreliable. No software, no installation files, no customer support -- you just have to plug it in and hope it works. Mine functioned somewhat erratically from the start, although it was tolerable for the first few weeks...finally got to the point where the cursor would be vibrating around on the screen when I wasn't even touching the keyboard/touchpad. I really wish the product worked better, because I loved using it with the computer I have set up in the living room.
| | I've tried to stick with this dreadful keyboard, but I just can't any longer. Pointer/cursor moves around on it's own, deletes text, etc. Don't buy.
